Independent software studio
Built to a standard,
not a deadline.
We design and build our own products end to end — the interface, the systems behind it, and the inference layer underneath — and we publish them ourselves.
01 / What we build
Products, not deliverables.
Marzipan Labs makes consumer software: applications that people open every day, distributed worldwide through the Apple App Store. Each one is built on infrastructure we own and maintain — our own inference gateway at the edge, our own data pipelines, and a shared internal framework that every product draws from. Nothing is assembled from parts we do not understand.
02 / Under the hood
The engineering is the product.
Retrieval-grounded memory
Our applications remember. Vector indexes run on the device itself, so context can accumulate over months without ever leaving it.
Model orchestration
Requests are routed across multiple independent providers and raced against one another. The first correct answer wins; a stalled provider becomes a non-event rather than an outage.
Structured by contract
Model output is decoded against typed schemas before it reaches the interface. Systems that consume free-form text eventually break. Ours are not permitted to.
Attested clients
Every request is signed by hardware inside the device before our edge will answer it. Credentials never ship inside an application.
03 / Approach
How the work gets done.
- 01
Small by design
A small team holding a high standard ships more of consequence than a large team holding a process.
- 02
We use what we make
Every product is used daily by the people who build it. Problems are found before anyone else has to find them.
- 03
Privacy is architecture
Whatever can be computed on the device is computed on the device. It is a structural decision, not a settings toggle.
- 04
Finished, not shipped
A feature is done when it has survived real use — not when the branch merges.
04 / Working together
Most of what we build is our own.
Occasionally we take on outside work, when the problem is genuinely interesting and the people are serious about it. If that describes something you are working on, write to us.
